Brother has been manufacturing multi-functional printers for quite some time now and this time is the release of an exclusive fast printer aimed at small office and home segments—the MFC-J625DW. Let’s check out what this MFP has to offer. ![]() Auto duplex printing
Features
The Brother MFC-J625DW is an all-in-one printer, which features a printer, a flatbed scanner, a facsimile machine and a copier in one single unit. It has a very small footprint due to its compact size and is suitable for those looking for an all-in-one unit for use in a small office or home. The printer uses four cartridges and can print at a high resolution of 6000 x 1200 dpi. The flatbed scanner is a legal size scanner, which can scan at interpolated resolutions of 19,200 x 19,200 dpi (1200 x 2400 dpi optical) at 32-bit scan depths. It also features an ADF, which can support up to 20 legal size sheets. The copier can do both black & white as well as colour documents with reduction and enlargements of documents from 25 percent to 400 percent, respectively. Poster function in copying is also possible. Fax documents can be sent in colour as well using the built-in 14.4 Kbps modem in less than 7 seconds per page. The fax documents can be scheduled and you can also receive and store up to 400 pages of fax, if the paper runs out. The MFC also features a built-in auto-duplex unit, which enables the user to print on both sides of the paper. This not only enables the user to save on paper, but also saves time and the trouble of manually flipping and reinserting the paper after one batch of prints are done.
The MFC-J625DW can connect to the PC using a standard USB 2.0 interface and to the network using wireless b/g/n networking, but sadly there is no physical Ethernet interface, if you don’t have a wireless router in your home or office. Other interfaces, include a USB port, which supports PictBridge for digital cameras and USB flash drives from which documents and photos can be printed from and scanned to. An MMC card reader is also available for the same option. Documents scanned can be exported in the form of TIFF, JPEG, BMP, MAX, HTM, PCX, DCX, PNG, FPX and PDF to the flash card or to the USB flash drive without the need for a PC to do the same.

The MFC features a tilting 1.9-inch display, which is a touch-enabled screen and is a part of the entire control panel and is used for configuring and accessing the printer’s functionality. The rest of the control panel features buttons for scan, fax, copy, photo, home, power, dialing pad, stop/cancel and color / black copy.
The printer uses a total of four cartridges (C, M, Y and K) for printing and each cartridge can yield a total of 600 pages. The cartridge costs around Rs.435 each and the estimated print economy can be estimated at Rs.0.7 per black print and Rs.2.10 per colour print (excluding the paper costs). The printer can handle a monthly duty cycle of a maximum 2,500 pages and the recommended monthly print volume by the manufacturer is around 250-800 pages.

Brother also has an app for Android, Apple and Windows-based phones called ‘Brother iPrint&Scan’, which is free and can be used to print or scan directly from/to the phone using the wireless network. Bundled along with the MFC-J625DW is a disk, containing the software Scansoft PaperPort v12 SE with OCR for Windows and Presto! PageManager for Mac. |
