The S10 offers 38-114mm of zoom range, which is the same as the 35mm lens. All this with a maximum aperture of f2.8 at wide angle and f5.4 telephoto. If this is your first investment in a camera, you'll be content with the auto mode. It’s a simple point-and-shoot exercise, not to mention the various scene modes to handle specific needs. Scene modes include food, night, landscape, flower, natural skin, sports, pet, and text. There’s also the frame composite mode that allows you to shoot the subject with a surrounding frame. The camera should have offered a little more choice than just three frames though. The camera doesn’t offer too many manual controls. If you wish a change from the auto mode, the program mode is handy. This allows you to control exposure settings, white balance, sharpness, saturation, contrast, image quality etc. What else could a beginner possibly need? The ISO sensitivity can be boosted to 1600, with the lowest point at 64. In-camera adjustments such as cropping, resizing and red-eye fixing are available. You can also add composite frames after you click the picture, which is cool. |
