iPhone Part II - The iPod Funda

Music/Video Performance
Apple has managed to keep the player performance the same as that of the iPod. Although I suspect the volume level has been pulled down. The non-existence of a custom EQ makes a lot of difference, but a wide array of presets are quite satiating. The cover flow interface makes flipping across tracks a pleasure and the sleekness of the entire package makes it feel a like small PMP in your pocket. The large screen also ups the iPod video angle quite a bit.

While watching videos you will have to view it in landscape. If you've been using the fifth generation of iPod already, then you will notice that the largish screen makes a hell of a difference. You can see less mosaic compression on the screen, and there are fewer dithering issues. What I like about the iPhone is that the responsiveness of the touch-screen helps in getting to any portion of the movie with a simple swipe of the button. The maximum resolution output of the phone is 480 x 320 pixels. The file formats supported by the iPhone are MPEG-4 and files with H.264 codecs, just like the iPod.

Verdict
I will not deny that using the iPhone brings along with it a whole new meaning in using a mobile phone. As far as the iPod player is concerned I believe it has managed to live up to my expectations. There are still a few things like the syncing issues you will face while transferring data to the phone. It simply doesn't allow you to drag and drop within the iTunes library. This I think is a major drawback. Also I find the sync and erase function, every time you plug the iPhone into another computer, very inconvenient. However, all said, I believe that the iPhone's iPod player is the closest you can get to interacting directly with your media player.
