Sony Ericsson F305

08 Dec, 2008, 2:14 pm IST | by Shayne Rana | Mobile phones Mobile phones

In the multimedia mid-range handset division, the F305 seems to fit in quite neatly considering the price. Of course, it’s what you get for that price that ultimately makes it worth buying. Allow me to give you my opinion on the Sony Ericsson F305 handset and hopefully it’ll give you an idea on a purchase option.

Form Factor
I've said it before and I’ll say it again, I’ve always liked SE’s designs when it comes to handsets of any form factor – slider, candy bar and flip. The F305 is no exception. It has a rather wide array of buttons below its 2-inch TFT LCD (176 x 220 pixel resolution) display that sports 262k colors. It even has two gaming keys (‘X’ and ‘O’) located above the display. The F305's a slider and it functions very smoothly. Without the slightest hint of friction, the handset effortlessly pops up and down. What I truly like about the design is the button placement and the keypad. All of the keys are large enough to accommodate all size fingers and thumbs and will make navigation very easy.

On one side you’ll find a small dedicated camera key and the volume/zoom keys and on the opposite side the universal proprietary port for charging, USB connectivity and the handsfree. An M2 (Memory Stick Micro) card slot is located at the top of the phone and the F305 has a 2MP camera located at the back.

Features and Performance
Entertainment and Media

I’d like to kick off with the gaming section. A dedicated key will take you straight to the games in the entertainment section of the handset’s menu. Bundled with a total of 11 games, the phone offers plenty of entertainment at your fingertips. Out of that lengthy list of pre-installed games are three motion sensitive games – Black Bass Fishing, Bowling and Jockey. These games will require you to use the handset somewhat like a Nintendo Wii controller. You will have to cast the fishing line and pull back for fishing, swing the handset to simulate a bowling throw and tilt the handset to steer your horse while racing.

There are quite a few games on the memory card that you'll need to install. So don't be surprised if you find just one pre-installed game (JC Does Texas) that allows you to use the gaming keys in landscape mode. You'll just have to manually install the others. The installation (.JAR) files are stored in the 'Others' folder located in the File Manager section of the memory card.
