XFX nForce 680i LT SLI

31 Mar, 2007, 12:59 pm IST | by Gaurav Seth | Motherboards Motherboards

Nvidia has always been an enthusiast's favorite for motherboards when it comes to AMD processors. But with the onslaught of Intel’s Core 2 Duo and Extreme processors, Nvidia struggled to keep pace with its initial motherboard offerings i.e. the nForce4 and nForce 5XX Intel Editions. The boards with these chipsets were not high on overclocking options and enthusiasts preferred Intel’s own chipsets. Nvidia came back with the landmark 680i chipset, that turned the tide for Nvidia, restoring the equilibrium that enthusiasts were used to—the fastest processors with Nvidia powered boards.

The 680i flagship boards at around Rs. 16,000 to Rs. 18,000 were turning out to be expensive even for the yearning enthusiast, and the 650i SLI boards for around Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 11,000 had quite a few features cut down. There were quite a few features on the 680i, that the users could live without, and eliminating them would reduce the board prices. And that’s exactly what Nvidia has done with their latest 680i LT. We will first look at the differences in the features of the boards — the 680i and the 680i LT and then head them down some benchmarks and games.

One important thing to keep in mind here is that these boards are part of a campaign called 'Designed by Nvidia.' This is what Nvidia has to say about it.

Don't know what "Designed by NVIDIA" gets you? Well, for starters, this means that the motherboard was developed and designed by nForce and GeForce engineers to make sure that the motherboard provides the optimal performance platform for GeForce GPUs.

In addition, the "Designed by NVIDIA" logo on the box designates that the motherboard inside was manufactured to the highest quality standards to ensure it delivers an unmatched user experience.

All "Designed by NVIDIA" motherboards fully support the advanced features found in their NV BIOS and enthusiast software, including NVIDIA nTune and MediaShield.

Finally, “Designed by NVIDIA” boards receive the full support of NVIDIA and partners. Since NVIDIA designs the boards, BIOS, and software, NVIDIA can provide an ‘extra-reactive’ level of support with partners and customers.
