Spice M-7070 Dual SIM GSM + GSM Mobile Phone

If the hoardings of Mumbai are anything to go by, I’m sure you’ve all noticed various promotions of Spice Mobiles' phones. The Indian mobile device manufacturer has come up with quite a competitive offering in the form of the Spice M7070. This Dual SIM GSM based mobile phone packs quite a punch in terms of features especially its 5MP camera.

Form Factor
The phone isn’t too bulky, which is great. It’s actually quite light, given that its shape is quite standard and a little boxy. However, as of now, the only available color is black, which doesn’t gel too well with me. I like having options. On the bright side it has a good sized screen featuring 240 x 320 pixels with 262K colors. The phone also has a camera click and zoom in/ out buttons on the side, which make a world of a difference. On the other side you have your standard micro USB jack. In keeping with the comfort, I must add that the keypad here works well with the design. It’s not too small, and not extra large, but just right. So whether you have thin dexterous fingers or fat clumsy ones, your messages won’t have to bear the brunt.

The candy bar design unfortunately leaves the phone looking quite standard as far as it comes to fitting in the battery pack, 2 Sims, and a memory card (up to 16GB). Nevertheless, as ‘standard’ as its form may seem, I can’t say it’s not well designed for comfortable use.

Features and Performance
Interface

Now the user interface in this case is fairly consistent throughout. It’s easy to use; however one has to get through the navigation, which doesn’t take too long.

Media
The speakers on the handset are quite sound. They have decent bass response, and good Highs, so you don’t end up having a muddy ring tone if it’s an mp3. The audio player shortcut makes it much easier to just access your playlist with the push of a button. The earphones are quite good as well, however, they don’t provide the very best sound you can get from a mobile device. The Bass is somewhat subdued, and hi’s a little to high. This can be quite irritating for your ears. The phone also has a mic present, which lets you record and store sounds provided you have the memory.

The phone also features an FM radio. The reception can get somewhat fuzzy around some indoor areas, but is fairly consistent throughout. An additional add-on to the FM radio is a nifty little feature that I found extremely useful called Schedule FM Record, which as the name suggests, allows you to record your favorite RJ's show, or an entire evening of assorted music. It’ll play standard MPEG4 and 3GP video formats. Although there will be a little framing it’s actually a lot better than most other devices in its class. I think this is quite cool, as it also has a TV Out function.
