LG Secret KF750

The problem arises with the touch-sensitive navigation system. It wasn't as responsive as I hoped. It tends to be a bit sluggish, though not much. Those with stubby fingers (like me) might find it takes a bit of getting used to. Since there doesn’t seem to be a consistency in the sensitivity and no adjustable settings, initially you’ll end up hitting the wrong key and wondering why nothing’s changed on the display, or why you’ve got the wrong options. The right and left navigation keys and the two option keys below the display are a little too close to each other, but it's nothing you won’t get used to.

The handset also has touchscreen capabilities that are associated only with a specific menu system called Media Touch. This brings up specific applications like the music player, which has a finger-touch interface in this mode (similar to Samsung’s Omnia), an image viewer, document reader, FM radio, and access to the preloaded M-Toy games that use the handset’s built-in accelerometer for game play.

These are in addition to the other puzzle (non-action) games available. This interface makes the KF750 quite appealing in terms of navigation and interactivity. The accelerometer is subject to specific applications but functions relatively well.

Media
Audio

LG ensured the KF750 will provide users with plenty of media options to keep them satisfied. While the features are aplenty, they don’t always function to perfection. To start with, while the audio player has plenty of EQ presets to choose from I’d suggest sticking to default as the dynamic range is a bit off when it comes to using the presets. At peak volume the audio gets quite distorted – not that you’ll really need to crank it up too much.

From the Touch Media player, there doesn’t seem to be any option of accessing the EQ, or any other audio setting for that matter, except the audio files themselves. Only a 'repeat' option is available.

The FM radio was sadly almost useless on the move, with unsteady reception during my commute. The reception was not too good even when stationary in an area that usually ensures decent reception in other products. There was no FM recording feature evident, which isn’t necessarily a drawback.

Video
The KF750 supports DivX playback but the files will need to be scaled correctly using a converter which is available on the CD provided along with LG’s PC Suite software. The edited files look really good on the Secret’s display, so video is no problem at all. You can also connect to YouTube and stream videos, but they don’t look too good – framing and overall distortion are issues. It could be a glitch with the service provider, though I doubt it would be that bad.
