Olive Zipbook X107H Netbook

Now here is a product by a nearer to home brand known as Olive, that is not just another Me too in this crazy market of netbooks. The feature is specific to a netbook’s function, which is accessing the net on the go. It comes with an inbuilt Tata Photon Plus card, with 2 months free subscription, for access to the Internet. This happens to be the first 3G enabled notebook, and here is its first complete review.

Design
The model is one of the simplest looking Netbooks I have seen in the recent past, and that is not necessarily a bad thing. It’s clad in a matte black finished lid which runs all the way into the internal surfaces and also the keyboard and touchpad. The only thing not black are the touch pad and power on buttons.

The keyboard is edge to edge, with about 92% full size keys, resembling as much as it can to a normal keyboard in tactile feel and user experience. The shift and Enter keys are normal size too. That is a good thing. The only issue is there are no separate PG Up, PG Dn keys, they are accessible by the Function key. I like the touch pad here a lot, especially it’s dedicated scollzone demarcated out with a white column- it just makes thing easier.

Overall ergonomics of both keyboard and touch pad are more than satisfactory. The screen is a 16:9 aspect, 10.2-inch backlit by a WLED, and a 1024 by 600 native resolution screen. The Wi-Fi is upto Wi-Fi n, and of course we have regular Bluetooth capabilities and a 10/100 LAN port.  Battery is a regular 6 cell Li ion strip, which is quite simple and straight up in its physical retention at the back panel.
