If an enemy approaches, you’ll hear the sound of his boot crunching blades of grass. Leaves will brush against each other in the distance, and plant stems bend just like they would in real life. Even when the island gets frozen, you actually experience the cold as your visor and guns catch a bit of frost on them. Having such a vast environment communicate with you is something that transcends the visuals and physics of the game from the merely cosmetic, to a whole new communicative and interactive level, giving Crysis that extra edge. This ‘contrast’ that Cevat Yerli speaks of is quite evident in the gameplay. Halfway through the game, you discover that the artifacts the scientists discovered are extraterrestrial and there are aliens on the island. At this point the gameplay changes its pace drastically to accommodate the new enemies, timely enough to keep you entertained and engrossed throughout. While the singleplayer campaign is a lengthy and satisfying experience, the multiplayer pales in comparison. With games like Call of Duty 4 and Team Fortress 2 out there, the Crysis multiplayer mode feels even more ill-equipped to please the FPS crowd since it lacks depth and isn’t half as addictive or fast-paced. Moving back to the beginning, there was considerable hype created around Crysis – the developers boasted about its insane physics, gorgeous visuals and a very immersive experience. Crysis delivers on all these fronts, delivering a solid FPS experience that’ll just get better with time – when the next wave of video cards hits the market. While the game’s an excellent buy for any FPS fan (even with its unimpressive multiplayer gameplay), anyone who considers buying it would need to have an excellent PC to truly enjoy the game. |
