Mirror’s Edge was a tricky beast to review. It brought a ton of new stuff to the table but at the same time it was hampered by clichéd problems such as trial and error gameplay, an erratic difficulty curve and a save system, and so on. I could go ahead and elaborate but then I’d just be repeating my review – which you can scope out if you head here. So yeah, now that you’re familiar with the ups and downs of Mirror’s Edge it’s time to dive into the PC port of the game that - to my surprise – is actually an excellent port. You see the recent months have seen PC gamers receive crappy, broken, subpar ports so my confidence in developers hasn’t been exceptionally high but developer DICE has (thankfully) proved me wrong. Compliments aside, the first thing you need to know is that the PC port of Mirror’s Edge sports the exact same content as its console counterparts so if you’re looking for newer levels or new gameplay elements you’ll be disappointed. This means it also suffers from the same issues that plagued the console versions. Throughout the game you’re still chased 24/7 by cops who just love emptying their entire clip in you and the save point system is as erratic as ever (no manual save love for the PC DICE?). Split second reflexes are the only thing that’ll prevent Faith from being a splatter on the ground and sticking around to fight more than one enemy at a time will more often than not will still get you killed. |
