Design and Build Quality
The Canon IXUS 310 HS is a compact stylish camera that is designed to appeal to both genders. The product sample we received had a chocolate brown finish. There are other colour options as well available in the market. The camera is made of a stainless steel body, but upon first sight or touch it does look like hard plastic. The camera has two shades of brown on it, one at the front and the other at the back. the curved sides look really good.

The camera features the large 3.2-inch LCD touchscreen on the rear. The fact that it is touchscreen, reduces the amount of buttons needed. Canon has kept that thought in mind and added just a playback button on the rear. The few other controls that are found on this camera are located at the top, which are a toggle switch for switching between manual and auto mode, an on/off button and a zoom rocker, which is located next to the shutter release button. All these buttons, though stylishly made are sturdy in build. Connectivity options such as a mini HDMI and mini USB are housed beneath a plastic flap located at the side of the camera. The 1000mAh battery and memory card slot is located underneath the camera and the battery flap is made of hard plastic. The camera has a grip, which allows one to easily open the bay. The flaps for both the bays are overall quite sturdy.

Features
The Canon IXUS 310 HS has a 12.1 megapixel CMOS sensor, which features Canon’s HS technology. This technology is used to help capture better images in low-light environments. The camera has a host of interesting features with the main one being its touchscreen LCD display. The interface of this camera is intuitive and all the options are nicely spread out along the screen. Using this camera is an easy task and one can get used to it within a matter of seconds. The IXUS 310 HS has a video recording option on the screen itself, so one can quickly switch between  the video recording mode and the the image capture mode.

The camera features a 4.4x optical zoom, which is equivalent of 24 -105mm. One can expect a reduced amount of blur in images with the in-built image stabilizer found in the camera. Another interesting feature of this camera are the various settings such as ISO, whitebalance, etc. Other features include poster effect, toy camera effect, creative light effect, fish-eye effect, among others. These features make it nice to use during parties, holidays or any other occasion. The camera is compatible with memory cards such as SD, SDHC and SDXC. If you plan to use this camera for a fair amount of video recording in full HD, we advice you to go in for a storage card with a high capacity. Overall, the features of this camera are quite impressive at this price point.

There’s a constant effort to reduce and totally eliminate subjectivity. Each product is tested according to set test processes so the same test scenario is used.

Verdict
The ratings awarded to a product are derived from a number of tests and calculations, keeping certain important factors in mind. These factors consist of features, performance, quality and value for money. In case of software and some other categories, build quality might be replaced with ease of use or ease of installation. Products are compared with other products in a similar price range or product category.

Features
The features component of the score is rated based on the kind of features present on a particular product. Features are a big part of what people look for when they’re buying a new product such as a phone or a camera.

Performance
The performance score is derived from the benchmarks and tests run on the product. In case of the subjective scores, an average of the scores given by the group of reviewers is considered.

Build Quality
The build quality of a product is important so that it doesn’t fall apart after some use. The build quality scores from the way the product is designed and the kind of materials used in the product.

Value
Value for money comes from the fact that a cheap product is able to provide most of the performance of a higher priced product. Once again, value for money is judged by comparing pricing and performance of products in a particular price range or category.

There are many other aspects of the product that are looked at such as the bundled software and accessories. All of these scores are aggregated together to form the final score.
