Canon PowerShot A2200 - Affordable and Solid

Canon recently launched a range of cameras in India; among those was the Canon PowerShot A2200. The entry-level PowerShot A2200 uses a 14.1 mega pixel CCD sensor and has Canon’s DIGIC 4 processor onboard. We recently reviewed the Canon IXUS 220 HS, one of Canon’s slightly premium offerings and it performed admirably well. Let’s see how the new PowerShot A2200 fares.

Sturdy body on this entry level camera

Design and Build Quality
The Canon PowerShot A2200 that was sent to us was a stylish red piece. It has a plastic body with black buttons and a shutter release switch. The camera has a matte finish and like the IXUS 220 HS, has a 2.7-inch screen that flushes along the back. The other similarity between the two cameras is the trigger for zooming in or out of scenes and images in the gallery. Next to the camera shutter button is a dial which can be used to switch between different photographic modes.

Next to the screen are the menu and function buttons with the inclusion of a dedicated face detection button. Due to small size of the PowerShot A2200, the spacing of these buttons seemed very constricted.

Fitted on the side of the camera is a bay for a mini USB port as well as the analog AV port. The analog port can be connected to a television using the AV cable that came bundled with the camera. Canon provides a 4 GB SD card with the camera. 4 GB of memory should be enough to click sufficient number of photos and also some video footage.

Shooting with a single hand was not at all difficult and there was no need for using a strap. The camera fit in the hand perfectly and multiple shots were clicked easily. The camera too is light weight and compact enough to fit in your pocket. It’s no larger than a business card.

The build quality of this camera feels quite sturdy and a few knocks here and there would not affect it in any way majorly. The flaps for the ports as well as the battery bay felt sturdy. Apart from the spacing of the buttons, the Canon PowerShot A2200 is a good looking camera and we gave it a thumbs up where the design and build quality goes.

Features
The Canon PowerShot A2200 is fitted with 14.1 mega pixel CCD sensor with a 4x optical zoom lens that will surely interest users in purchasing this over other cameras in the same price category. This point and shoot compact camera can record HD videos at 720p which is another interesting feature to a camera that’s priced under Rs. 8,000.

Different shooting modes of the camera can be adjusted according to one’s preference by turning the dial on the top. These modes are standard on mostly all cameras seen nowadays with there being Program, Live, Auto, Easy, Blur Reduction, Fish-eye effect, Discreet and Video recording.

The Easy mode is an interesting feature and is basically designed for budding photographers to click images easily without the need of adjusting any settings. In Discreet mode, users can click pictures silently without any sound of flash or any other sounds. The designated button to select faces is another worthy addition to the phone that has done so well thus far.

This may be an entry level camera but it truly does possess a plethora of features which offer good amount of quality at an affordable price point.
