Kodak EasyShare M883

Kodak EasyShare M883 is the slightly better option from among the two M-series cameras launched in India last month. It costs about Rs 1000 more than the M853, but isn’t vastly different from its brother. You will find, however, that it has a couple of useful tricks up its sleeve.

To begin with, the M883 has a slightly bigger LCD screen (3 inches) than the M853. Yet there is very little to inspire you in choosing it over the other. The layout of the back panel is a bit classier than the M853 and is a bit slimmer, but only slightly at 92 x 57 x 19 mm. This has been done by getting rid of the dial. Instead, you will find individual buttons for each job, and a separate five-way navigational joystick that also gives direct access to the flash, macro mode etc.

The top portion only features the shutter release button and the power on/off key. The ‘delete’, ‘menu’ and ‘review’ buttons are available in the M883 too. What I liked here (which was absent in the M853) is a slider that allows you to jump from ‘auto’ to ‘scene’ and video modes easily.

Apart from this there's little that the camera can boast about; since it does very little that the M853 doesn’t. There aren’t any manual controls on this one either, and it's obviously designed to please the point-and-shoot brigade. All they need to do is choose auto mode and start clicking.
