High saturation levels may be explained by the fact that most consumer cameras like to overdo this bit so that colours stand out. All in all, pictures clicked with this camera had a warm tone, so while clicking indoors pictures come out with a touch of fluorescence.

Also we were distressed by the lack of sharpness in the pictures when blown up. Detailing is mediocre at best and pictures include a lot of grain.

In the night, at low ISO settings, the grain level was considerably low. But the amount of detailing was not quite what I expected from the S50. The textures were very grainy. At higher ISO settings, particularly at ISO 800 and ISO 1600, the amount of grain was rather unacceptable. Therefore, night shooting is a big no-no, unless you have a tripod or you are working under adequate lighting conditions, or only if you are okay with very grainy pictures.

The camera works on a Li-ion battery that gave about 50 pictures with a lot of screen usage. With minimum screen usage I could manage only 65 pictures. I think this is pretty sad, so if you are out on a field day do remember to carry an extra battery (will have to buy separately). Another reason why I like cameras that works on AA batteries.

The shutter works at a speed range of 4 seconds to 1/2000th of a second, and as far as the speed is concerned, the camera lights up in about 1 second and takes about .5 seconds between each picture.
