With so many options available in the budget digicam market, it's perhaps the biggest segment of the entire consumer digital camera range in India. It can get very confusing for a consumer who wants to pick up a digital camera as he will have to end up questioning himself on his exact technical requirements, the situations in which he will be using the camera and also on how much will he compromise on quality just to save up on that extra money. All this because all though this segment has some models going at amazing prices, it also has some major duds. The question we seek to answer in this review is—which one of these is the Olympus FE-170? Build The back of the camera has all the buttons required for the camera's functionality except for the power and the shutter release, which are located on the top. Scene modes are controlled using a self-explanatory jog dial, and additional functions like macro, flash and self-timer are located on a directional ring at the back. The 2.5" 154,000 color LCD gives a respectable display. The overall body seems sturdy enough to take some damage while being carried around in your pocket (though I wouldn't advise it), and looks that offer more utility than eye-candy. |
