Zebronics Omega MP3DJ

The sound dynamics are not perfect; the highs are a wee bit bright and I could use a little more thump in the bass line. The SRS effect proved to be quite good in altering the overall sound quality, so that’s a definite plus. I feel customizable EQ settings would have made a difference. Nevertheless it still offers great sound for the price.

The built-in speaker is no louder than your average mobile phone, so don’t expect too much. What it does come really handy for is when you’re playing back a recording from the integrated microphone. Since the player comes equipped with this feature, you can easily use it as a dictaphone. You can also relax and listen to audio books.

The FM radio works fairly well. Scanning is quick but you will have to manually save presets. While commuting, you will hear plenty of static but it’s s till a little better than some of the other products I’ve tested in the past. If you're in an area where there’s good reception, the onboard FM recorder will allow you to record and save your favorite tunes over the air.

The Omega MP3DJ has an e-book reader for text files. The display is not very conducive for reading, so this is a bit of a bother. Another feature is a telephone book. I couldn't quite figure out how to go about using it though. The displays simply show me options for browsing, importing and exporting information, but from where to where remains a mystery.

An aspect of the player that I felt was just average was its battery life. It ran nonstop for only about 9 hours and 45 minutes. I expected it to breach the 10-hour benchmark. The good thing is the player can be charged via USB and comes with a separate (bundled) adapter for hooking it up to a wall socket, so that it can charge a little faster.

The Bottomline
The Omega MP3DJ costs just Rs 1400, with 2GB storage. Irrespective of features that don’t really work or are just average, and taking into account the inbuilt speaker, I’d say the player is well worth the price. The battery may falter a bit, but the output and decibel levels are better than decent and you can use this player in most environments.

Would you buy it?
