Kodak EasyShare Z712 IS

The camera doesn’t give you grief over focusing while shooting in lowlight or dark conditions. It performs well in dark conditions, and judicious use of the right shutter speed can get you some good pictures. At low ISO levels, the camera did perform quite brilliantly. In some pictures I noticed some noise, but then I had to strain very hard for that. I suggest you don’t!!

I noticed some purple fringing and some artifacts in the picture. Another major grouse I had is that it failed to capture greens effectively. Most of the pictures I took had smudges and the green lacked detailing too.

As far as speed is concerned, the camera is quite fast. Startup time is less than 2 seconds and time lag between two pictures is less than a second too. Nice! The camera uses two AA batteries (NiMH recommended), and at one go I got about 10 shots. Now, this is bad! However, this seems more a fault of the piece we had for review.

For a price of Rs 18,500 the camera does have a lot to offer. If you are interested in clicking good pictures, I suggest you stick with scene modes. However, if you feel like it, I suggest you read up a bit about manual exposure.
