Killzone 2

03 Feb, 2009, 10:50 am IST | Avinash Bali | Console Console

When Killzone 2 was unveiled to the world at E3 2005 - in the form of a video, it blew the socks off everyone making the PlayStation3 look like some sort of super console, capable of rendering insanely awesome photo realistic visuals. Expectations were sky high and the bar was raised tremendously. Skeptics laughed at all the gullible folk since there was no way the video shown at E3 2005 was an indication of actual gameplay.

And then the truth emerged. The video that made our jaws drop was nothing but a pre-rendered sequence of events. Skeptics laughed. Believers cried and developer Guerilla disappeared from the horizon from a while, only to re-emerge a few years later with a game that looked nearly as good as the E3 video. Believers rejoiced once again.

After nearly three years of drama and fan boy fueled internet discussions, a copy of Killzone 2 finally made its way to our hands. Was it the system seller we were promised all along? Would this game justify purchasing a PlayStation3? Would it in fact silence all the haters out there? The answer to all those questions is an emphatic yes.

Killzone 2 takes place after the events of Killzone Liberation (the PlayStation Portable game). Fed up with the Helghast attacks on Vekta (their home planet), the ISA (Interplanetary Strategic Alliance) forces have now descended on the Helghasts’ home planet of Helghan to capture their leader, Emperor Visari. You'll step into the boots of Sgt. Tomas Sevchenko as he and his band of hard-as-nails, annoying and clichd soldiers end the Helghast tyranny once and for all. This is about all the story you’ll get from this game so if an intricate plot is what you yearn for, kindly replay BioShock or Metal Gear Solid. Voice acting, while not Haze levels of bad, is pretty terrible since all your team mates come across as arrogant buffoons who only recently discovered expletives and are more than happy to use them in each and every sentence.
