The 8900’s engine was nothing short of impressive. We didn’t particularly go for the bundled handsfree kit but it was nevertheless comfortable to use for calls. To truly get the best out of the audio player, get yourself a good set of earphones and you’re good to go. The audio settings available for customization include a set of EQ presets and BlackBerry’s audio booster. With the Audio Booster active we never found it necessary to listen to music with the volume peaked like it’s sometimes required in other handsets. You can very comfortably enjoy music even in a crowded train or bus or bazaar fore that matter with ever having to have the volume at max.

Quality of sound was great too. Once again we see the lack of an FM radio receiver, something that would be handy especially to an Indian audience. We didn’t miss this either but it could have been an asset I’m sure.� �

Video
Since the new BlackBerrys are equipped with Xvid and DivX codecs for videos, you’ll never have to really worry about converting files to be watched on your handset. A simple copy past would suffice. Of course if the frame rate is too high it could be an issue, but in most of our tests we didn’t come across any problems at all. The display with its superb resolution makes for comfortable watching and the audio, as we said earlier, was a non-issue as well.

Games
We honestly wish BlackBerry would try and get a few more games incorporated into their devices or at least newer ones. As with almost all the others we saw Brick Breaker and Word Mole. While these games are a lot of fun to play and will while away many hours, there’s plenty of room for more.

GPS
Well it has a GPS antenna of course but once again that’s almost completely useless as BlackBerry maps do not include India. We had to suffice with Google Maps which is not too bad though. The handset also features a Geo-Tagging of images feature and A-GPS support.
