Logitech AudioHub Speakers

03 Apr, 2008, 12:59 pm IST | by Siddharth Bhatia | Speakers Speakers

Innovation is a regular practice at Logitech, and this time the company's released something cool for multimedia and PC buffs. The product came out early this year in India, and we had asked for a unit for review as soon we heard the news. And voila – the AudioHub was soon with us in the Tech2 labs!

Design and Features
This integrated, one piece 2.1 speaker package is a brilliantly designed 'soundbar'. The shape is a horizontal parallelogram when viewed from the front, held in place by a central triangular rib that also acts as a chamber for the unit’s circuitry. The tweeters are housed in the two extremities and a subwoofer driver is positioned centrally, though at the back. The bottom of the unit has some grooves that should/could be used as cable organizer. This driver faces downwards, making the AudioHub a nice, single piece of multimedia equipment.

The color is black throughout, with cloth grilles on the sides for the tweeter grilles, and a smooth black finish for the rest of the hard plastic parts. Available along with the unit is a contraption that Logitech says is a webcam extension: a black rigid piece that fits into a groove in the center of the façade. The right and left speaker ‘arms’ can extend outward a bit to cradle variable screen sizes in the middle. This makes it a good solution for laptop users; that it's lightweight is another plus.

On the left of the back panel is the power input, for which an adapter is included. On the right is a USB hub, with 3 USB inputs. The included wire is short; you will need to use the extension cable provided. The On switch has a thick, round, translucent body; and lights up orange when on. It looks cool.

For the unit to work it has to be connected to a PC or notebook; USB input is necessary. Then you need to power it; there are no batteries. But that's understandable, as this unit draws quite a lot of power, more than batteries or USB can supply. After connection, Windows does the dirty work and you can use it as an audio player and/or a USB hub. The power output is 15 watts RMS; the tweeters are 2 inches, and the woofer is a 3-inch job.
