Zebronics Duality 5000 PC Speakers

18 Mar, 2009, 2:58 pm IST | by Siddharth Bhatia | Speakers Speakers

Zebronics is a brand that’s into numerous PC peripheral products with names like ‘Dhun’ and ‘Madhur’. We have not received any of those yet and today we have the Zebronics Duality 5000 speakers. The reason it’s called Duality is because of its 2.2 style architecture. Read on...

Design and Features
This 2.2 speaker system is actually not too different in form from regular 2.1 PC speakers. It consists of 2 small-sized satellite speakers and a large subwoofer. Here the subwoofer is not conventional; it has 2 drivers, aligned vertically in a column, thus the 2.2 nomenclature. The external finish on the 2 units is typical black matte MDF wood finish, except of course the front panels. The front panels consist of a glossy black face plate, separately attached on. The piano finish is not bare here. Zebronics has taken some steps to add that touch of aesthetic appeal, by etching an abstract design on the top half of the panels. The line art they have used looks nice, especially because of the fact that it's not loud and flashy, but is rather a subdued, similar colored texture.

The drivers are a stark contrasting aluminum colored thick fiber, with a shiny reflective dust cap for the satellites, while the sub drivers look little cooler with no dustcap in the center. Only ‘Dual Bass’ is printed in a sleek font. The size of the satellite drivers is 3-inches each, while for the woofer it is 4-inches each. On top of the woofer drivers, on the front panel itself, are 2 matching aluminum colored dials, one for bass levels and other overall volume. The combination of the 2 dials and drivers give the sub quite a nice look. It does not look tacky, which is an achievement for such products. The sub is ported on the right hand side, a decently finished one located near the top corner.

The subwoofer is a heavy unit, with clean edges and connections for the dials etc. When i lifted the unit to position it around, the reflex port creaked a bit, but that should not be an issue. The sats are light and neat, with overall decent build.

The connections at the back are simple and straight up, a bit too simple for me. There is one RCA pair for inputs, so that will accept stereo RCA wires from the PC soundcard. The other pair is also an RCA output for the left and right speakers. There is no 3.5mm EP input, which should have, or rather could have easily been there. The power is 40 watts RMS, signal to noise ratio is 65 dB. Rated frequency response is 20Hz- 20 kHz, quite a bold rating, We will have to check that.
