AOC V22 LCD monitor(LED lit)

23 Jan, 2010, 10:00 am IST | Siddharth Bhatia | Monitors Monitors

A brand that makes quite reasonably priced models with attractive and more or less useful features— is a  recipe for popularity in our buzzing tech market, for sure. AOC has a wide array of LCD monitors, and today we have their V22 LED backlit LCD monitor, LED backlights being the new craze in town for PC monitors. Let’s see what this 22 incher has to offer.

Design
The bezel here is quite thin and streamlined, with a glossy black finish. The screen is reflective too, and enclosed in quite a thin frame, as is the trend with LED lit displays these days, measuring about 0.75 inch in depth. There is a transparent plastic strip rimming around the bezel, with the bottom panel being the broadest, featuring an aquamarine accent on its lower edge and Power button on its right end. The power button has a silver ring around it that initially came across as an aesthetic  touch, but it actually is a 4 way navigation pad. The design and finish of the whole arrangement is really nice.

The stand also looks quite well matched to the whole aesthetic scheme of things, and is stout and sturdy, though a little wobbling still occurs at the joint. The connectors are placed at the back panel, on its lower left corner. The good thing is they face outwards, and not downwards, thus no bending over is required. The V22 comes with a webcam, perched on the top panel centre. Another good feature is the inbuilt microphone, thus webcalling and conferring is made easy by the monitor.

Connectivity options are basic with single HDMI and VGA inputs for video. There is no DVI, and moreover there is no DVI to HDMI cable supplied, so that’s an extra expense for owners of Graphics cards with only DVI outs. There also is a USB input. The native res is 1680 x 1050, 16:10, and this is my first gripe with the otherwise great looking monitor. Brightness is at 280 cd/m2 while contrast is rated at 100,000:1 dynamic. Response time is 2 ms (grey to grey). The panel is, I assume, a TN panel, and of course last but not least, the backlight is WLED.
