Creative Zen Vision:W

Other Creative Features
The weirdest thing about the Creative players is that they come with various functions but no mention of how to use them in the User Guide. For example the Alarm function in the Date and Time feature. After setting the alarm time, scheduling it for either daily or ‘One-Time’ and letting the player choose a track to use as the tone, nothing happens. I could see the little alarm bell on the main page but nothing happens. However what does happen is no matter what time you select be the next minute or anytime in the next day, as soon as you turn on the alarm you’ll get a message appearing at the bottom of the screen telling you the alarm time but the music has already started playing. And since there are no hints on how to actually use this useless feature in the manual, it’s of no use to anyone. It gets activated the moment you switch the alarm on.

This Creative player also has the option of syncing your Outlook with the player so it backs up your schedules, tasks and contact base into the player. All you have to do is check the organizer and you’ll have all your data at hand. There’s also the option of creating a space as a hard drive if you’d like to simply transport data from one place to another. You can also set the players capacity from 512MB up to 16 GB.

The W also allows you to choose between 6 different color themes and other features like adjusting the display settings, choosing a language etc. from the Settings menu. But one of the better features of the Vision:W is the Compact Flash Card reader. Simply plug it in and you're good to go. The drawback is that you can’t view the contents on the card without copying them to the device first. Another drawback to the player is that it only comes with a soft case but nothing to carry it in, nor a stand of any kind to prop it up anywhere.

The battery of the Vision:W is sadly inadequate. For music it’s excellent, clocking in at just about 13.5 hours but when it comes to video, all I was able to do was watch a total of 2 full movies and about 20 minutes of another. That would estimate just a total of 5 hours and some change, which is not too great in my book but it is good by any other standard.

The Bottom Line
If you’re just looking for a 30GB player that simply plays most video files with a little above average clarity and you can also enjoy your music and listen to the radio, this is a decent enough player. With a street price of approximately Rs. 18,500 it’s worth your while. I would have expected more out of the battery but it’s great for audio and like I said before, at least 2 full length movies.
