Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

13 Nov, 2007, 12:30 pm IST | by Avinash Bali | Console Console

You’re a newly appointed SAS soldier who’s tasked with obtaining certain documents from a cargo ship floating around in the middle of a stormy ocean. You enter the ship in utter stealth at night, but soon its hostile inhabitants become aware of your presence so you decide its time to introduce them to your semi-automatic friend, silencing them once and for all.

Thousands of bullets whiz by your head, grenades explode inches away from your feet, your team mates are mowed down in front of you and you’re constantly facing wave after wave of a relentless foe who won’t give up till until you and your team mates get carved up like Swiss cheese.

Somehow you brave all the odds in true Call of Duty style and make your way to the objective with whatever team you have left. You’ve reached the bowels of the ship, secured the oh-so-important documents, and made your way back to the extraction point – but Modern Warfare isn’t that forgiving. Before you know it, the ship is beset by the enemy's aerial attacks.

Their firepower creates a massive hole in the ship’s hull and a huge gush of water comes rushing in knocking you and your team to the ground. Your squad leader comes to you, shaking you up from your stupor and you realize that the ship’s slowly but surely sinking...

Frantically you make your way to the upper decks as the ship slowly begins to capsize, making your trek a highly disorienting affair. As soon as you reach the deck, the chopper begins to take off and with whatever strength you have left in your exhausted body you take a leap of faith off the sinking vessel hoping to make it to your nearest airborne ride.

You just about make it but half of your body’s hanging out of the chopper... and to make matters worse, your grip starts slipping. But then, out of nowhere, like a guardian angel, your squad leader comes in, grabs you by the hand and pulls you to safety.

Welcome to Modern Warfare...
