Grand Theft Auto IV Multiplayer

If for some reason you’re not too big on competitive modes, you could try out three of the game’s cooperative modes, which include:

Hangman’s Noose
In this mode all players spawn at the Francis International Airport and they have to collectively fight against Liberty City’s finest to get Mob Boss Kenny Petrovic to the extraction point. Each player can only respawn thrice, so make full use of cover and play safe.

Bomb Da Base II
Another co-op mission but unlike Hangman’s Noose this one’s a bit more complicated and is broken up into various parts – which involve hijacking a convoy, stealing explosives from the convoy, piloting a chopper to gain access to a cargo ship, and blowing it to oblivion using them stolen explosives. Once again players have just three lives so make sure each one counts.

Deal Breaker
As the name suggests this mode is all about breaking a major deal that’s taking place between a biker gang and the mafia. Killing everyone at the deal and escaping with the goods seems to be the order of the day here.

As you can see, players have a boatload of options at their disposal, so there’s a high chance you’ll be coming back for some multi-theft auto action on a regular basis. Unfortunately most of the servers out there stick to a couple of tried and tested modes such as Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch, and the co-operative modes can get stale pretty fast (we hope GTA IV’s DLC can fix that).

Minor quirks aside, major props to Rockstar games for going all out with the multiplayer aspect. Even though it’s still a bit rough around the edges (joining servers can be a bit of a bitch at times) there’s no denying the fact that it is a valuable addition to the entire package.

Would you buy it?
