Lenovo Ideapad Y650

The Lenovo Y650 sports a multimedia-centric high-end feature set. Needless to say that it’s intended for people who are looking for an all-in-one portable entertainment package.

Applications
Watching movies on the crisp 16-inch display and listening to the pristine onboard sound is truly a treat. You can also directly playback using Blu-ray discs. To further enhance this experience use the HDMI port to connect the laptop to your HDTV or a larger monitor. HDMI allows connecting HD projectors while older models can be connected via the VGA port.

If watching movies doesn’t satisfy you, connect your cable TV to the built-in TV tuner. Storing HD movies requires a lot of space, but the 320 GB of storage is likely to suffice. Even transferring data will be faster with the eSATA port. Connectivity is offered via gigabit Ethernet and Wi-Fi N, which means faster connections and larger wireless coverage area.

Performance
The heady amalgamation of powerful hardware and high-end multimedia isn’t common amongst laptops. Also, the excellent overall quality of multimedia is a rarity. Considering these factors we’d say that the price tag is justified to a large extent.

We used the CyberLink DVD 9 to play a high-definition content and the playback was simply excellent. Even listening to music was a treat, thanks to built-in JBL speakers. Games that demand heavy resources such as Crysis will run seamlessly at low resolutions and settings.

As far as lighter games are concerned, they will be playable even at medium or high resolutions. Applications such as video encoding, ripping music in iTunes and using the Adobe CS3 suite will be smoothly operable. Considering the hardware and the test results, this laptop is certainly a good performer.__STARTQUOTE__The Y650 is ruggedly built and is also light in weight, therefore carrying it around will not give you sore shoulders.__ENDQUOTE__Design and Quality
Owing to the unconventional design—an elaborately stylish exterior—most multimedia fans will be attracted. The Y650 is based on a tri-color theme, black, bronze and white. The top of the lid is black and rubberized, while the inner screen-frame and the bezel are glossy. In contrast to the lid, the bezel is all-white and fl ashy—in a good way though.

Surprisingly, despite the glossy finish, finger prints aren’t prominent. We like the bronze beading along the edges, it adds to the pizzazz. While this theme would appeal to many people, it does remain a matter of personal choice. The Y650 is ruggedly built and is also light in weight, therefore carrying it around will not give you sore shoulders. It’s worth mentioning that the touch pad is unusually large in size and is quite responsive too.

Conclusion
If you’re looking for an all-in-one portable entertainment laptop which has powerful hardware, the Y650 is one of the best choices you’ll make with your Rs 1,03,990.
