Game of The Year 2009: Action

Action games that blew our mind this year.
|
And the nominees are: Assassin’s Creed II Improving on every aspect that made Assassin’s Creed repetitive and boring, Assassin’s Creed II was a blast from start to finish. Even though the story was a tad convoluted, Ubisoft threw in tons of varied gameplay in there to make sure we never got bored. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Naughty Dog’s labor of love was a surreal action game that managed to traverse the thin line between gameplay and interactive cut-scenes moving seamlessly from one to another. And yes, it is the best looking game this generation as well. Batman: Arkham Asylum Superheroes have always had crappy luck in world of video games but with Batman: AA, developer Rocksteady gave the Dark Knight a new lease of life. Not only is the game high on atmosphere but every aspect of the game be it gameplay, story, visuals was top notch. GTA IV: Episodes from Liberty City Episodes from Liberty City isn’t a full-fledged retail game. It consists of both batches of DLC released by Rockstar for GTA IV but you can’t ignore the fact that both Lost and the Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony pack in nearly nine hours of gameplay each, and tons of gameplay improvements making this package a contender for this category. Ninja Gaiden Sigma II Ninja Gaiden Sigma II was merely a remake of Ninja Gaiden II but it did make the game a lot more playable by reducing the brutal difficulty curve and adding in a bunch of new stuff like weapons, playable characters etc. The only disappointment was the omission of blood and gore that gave Ninja Gaiden II its over-the-top personality. |
