AV Receiver This is the unit that acts like the engine of the system. It is no more than an amplifier for your sound signal that is coming from the DVD player. Besides that, it is also capable of receiving video inputs from various sources and sending them out to the display. So if you have multiple DVD players or a gaming console also, then you can send the video connections to your receiver, and the AV receiver also has HDMI out to connect to the TV. Thus you can just switch sources with the receiver’s remote. Another important thing that the receiver does is receive the audio as mentioned before, but what it does after that is vital to the Home theater experience - It decodes the digital audio signal and sends the actual sound to the speakers. For surround sound we need to decode the signal, which is done by the receiver in a home theater. The quality of the sound reaching your speakers depends quite heavily on the circuitry of the AV receiver, and even a lot of fine tuning and adjustments to the sound are possible through the receiver. FM radio also is possible. |
