So Bad, It's Good

Apple-style-span" style="font-family: tahoma; font-size: 13px; white-space: pre-wrap">A couple of weeks back we showed you a list of our favorite movies, or should we say, socially accepted films. But as any loyal reader would know that we tend to cross the boundaries sometimes and enjoy things that may be considered unhealthy, borderline insane and… well, just weird. Watching really bad films and enjoying them is one of them.

There are times that we don’t look for direction, A-list star cast or hell, even a story in the movie. All we’re looking for is some entertainment that’s so ridiculous that it’s actually funny. So here’s a peek into our alter-egos — proceed with caution.

Siddharth Bhatia
Siddharth has led a comparatively protected life (from bad films), so to him a potentially A-grade film gone horribly wrong fits the bill. It’s only a matter of time before the team exposes him to the Ramsay collection of classical cinema and broadens his perspective on this topic.

Siddharth's So Bad, It's Good Film:
Jaani Dushman (2002)

A classic in every sense of the word, this adult-rated movie has a starcast that can put even the latest Bollywood blockbuster to shame. It has Akshay kumar, Sunny Deol, Rajat Bedi and a whole lot more. It’s a about an ichchadaari naag (yearning snake), that takes the form of a man, or vice versa, and then just kills everyone. At least that’s all I understood, and maybe that’s all there is to it. And why does this guy become a snake? Because it has something to do with his last life, and the rape of his girlfriend or something. There are scenes inspired from Terminator 2, The Matrix and many other Hollywood superflicks, with such incredulous performances that I was crying through the film. The main reason for the awesomeness of this thriller *ahem comedy* is the originality of the script. Who would have thought of a snake being reborn and avenging and killing people? There is also a special locket that the boys have to wear in order to be immune from the monstrosity of the naag. There is a scene in which Aman Verma, a TV host in both the movie and real life, comes out the TV , and trust me, that scene is better than ‘The Ring’
