3G Ready Handsets Under Rs. 10,000

We’re on the cusp of the 3G revolution. Of course we’ve been on that cusp for a really long time now. Nevertheless, the world has moved on and there are those of us who travel enough to make use of the 3G culture in other parts of the world. So for these techno-travelers who need the speed but aren’t interested in too much more, here are a few 3G enabled handsets within a budget of Rs. 10,000.

Samsung S5620 Monte – Rs. 8,600
Amongst this list of 3G enabled devices the Monte is by far the most feature rich. It’s equipped with Wi-Fi connectivity aside from just 3G and EDGE support. The Monte also comes with a GPS module and Google Maps. Samsung has also included their DNSe for a better music experience. From social networking to, chatting and a camera that sports a Smile Detection setting the Monte is quite a handy device to have on the go.

Another variant of the popular 5800 XM is the lower end 5230 that may not have as much as it’s predecessor but is still quite loaded. It’s got a built-in GPS module and Nokia has thrown in Ovi maps for navigation purposes complete with aerial images and 3D landmarks for over 200 cities and terrain map views for pedestrian and drive navigation. It also offers a certain amount of social networking. The Ovi store make sit convenient to download SN apps in case you’re looking for something more specific than those preloaded.

Nokia’s 5230 also features -
  • a 3.2-inch touchscreen sporting a 360 x 640 pixel resolution
  • 3G, EDGE/GPRS,
  • GPS with A-GPS, Nokia Maps

LG Cookie Plus - Rs. 7,990
The Cookie Plus is one of the latest editions to LG’s lower end, multimedia/social networking friendly range of touchscreen handsets. For the travelers who like staying connected to their various social networks the Plus offers quite a bit of connectivity from Facebook and Twitter to Orkut, Picasa and Flicker. The handset also supports handwriting recognition and comes with a preloaded document viewer of Microsoft files as well as Adobe PDF.
