Here's some mobile technology we in India are looking forward to seeing in the first half of 2009.

2008 is over and done with and in this time of recession, it’s good to look forward to the future and what awaits us. This year could be tougher on the technology industry but here’s what we’re really looking forward to seeing in the country in early 2009 from the mobile segment. Handsets Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and N97 The 5800 XpressMusic may have been unveiled in November 2008 but still hasn’t made it to the shelves yet, so of course we're looking forward to Nokia’s latest attempt at a touchscreen mobile. But it wasn’t too long after the 5800 was official that Nokia revealed a better model in the form of the N97 that comes equipped with a slide out QWERTY keypad as well as a 3.5-inch TFT touchscreen that’s a little larger than the 5800’s 3.2-inch display. The N97 will feature Wi-Fi, Stereo Bluetooth, GPS (A-GPS) and a 5 megapixel camera. BlackBerry Storm 9500 The 9500 has fared quite well in the markets where it’s already been launched and it seems like it’s possibly the best BlackBerry handset yet. With its attractive full touchscreen UI, 320 x 480 pixel and 65K color resolution, the Storm offers 1GB of internal memory with microSD card support for additional memory. It also features Bluetooth, GPS with A-GPS support and a 3 megapixel camera. Although it may not have a wider range of features, this is RIM’s first attempt at a full touch screen handset, and we’re personally looking forward to seeing first hand what it can do with what it has. LG Prada II and GD910 There are two LG products that we’re looking forward to this year. First is the upgrade to the Prada, the Prada II KF900, with its slide out QWERTY keypad. It features a 3-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 240 x 400 pixels and 256k colors. It’s equipped with a microSD card slot for memory expansion, a 5 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, Stereo Bluetooth, a document viewer and DivX support for video. The second product that was only recently revealed is LG’s GD910 wrist watch mobile phone. It’s equipped with a 1.4-inch TFT touchscreen, 3G connectivity and a camera. Perhaps it will also allow us to communicate with our cars, Knight Rider style! HTC Touch HD The Touch HD’s large 3.8-inch TFT touchscreen screen display sports a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels with 65K colors so it could well be one of the best displays yet. iPhone look out! HTC’s TouchFLO 3D coupled with an accelerometer and proximity sensor will definitely enhance the usage of this display. The handset is also quite well equipped with features like a 5 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth with A2DP, 3G, microSD cards support and GPS. It’s already unofficially available in the country though not easily, as we found out. |
