5 PMPs Under Rs 10,000

Here's a list of cool portable music/video players that you can buy for under Rs 10,000.

5 PMPs Under Rs 10,000

Philips GoGear SA6025 – Rs. 5,990 (2GB)

The GoGear SA6025 is another small and slim player that makes watching videos on the go very convenient. It has a 2.2 inch QVGA LCD, with a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels and 65K colors. It’s equipped with plenty of features from JPEG viewing to (of course) listening to music. It’s available in a 2GB model but there's no provision for external memory. Nevertheless, the supplied converter cuts down the size of your video files, so you wouldn't face space issues.

iPod Nano Video – Rs. 6,000 (4GB), Rs. 8,000 (8GB)

As I’ve said before, I don’t think there’s any player list that can ignore the Apple iPod. In this case, the new Nano Video fits the bill. Although the display may be a bit small at 2.2 inches, the resolution of 240 x 320 pixels ensures great clarity. Supplement it with the Nike Plus Kit and it becomes a great tool for daily jogs and workouts. More than anything else, the iPod is noted for its superb music quality – and this Nano is no exception.

Hard Disk Players

I thought I ought to mention some of the hard disk based PMPs available, but there seem to be only two in our price bracket that come to mind offhand – the Creative Zen Vision:M 30GB that’s priced at around Rs 8,000 (green) and Rs 10,000 (black), and the iPod 80GB that also costs around Rs 10,000. Oddly though, it seems the 30GB version has been discontinued. No worries though; it offers 80GB of space at that price and it’s an iPod. Need I say more? We’ve even done a comparison of the two 30GB models.

So that concludes my list. Do remember that these products might not be available everywhere for the same prices, but rest assured it will be just a minor difference, give or take a couple of hundred rupees. But if there are any more players you’d like me to include here (or test), do let me know by leaving a comment or email me.
