Here's a list of some of the Android phones that will most likely be coming up in the next couple of months.

Upcoming Android Mobiles To Look Out For

Android is taking over the phone market here in India and its open source system is generating a lot of hype. New handsets are being unloaded at our doorsteps on a very regular basis and here are some of the handsets that we should be seeing in the coming months.

LG Optimus GT540

The Optimus is LG’s new range of Smartphones and the first one that will hit the Indian market in an official capacity is the GT540. It’s a sleek handset that will support Android 2.1 OS and hopefully be upgradeable to Froyo when it’s available OTA for us. LG will include quite a few goodies preloaded with the device, a 2GB card and their own UI with widgets. The Optimus also supports DivX and XviD video playback. We even got an exclusive sneak pre-launch preview of the device, check it out here.

Features include -
  • a 3 inch resistive touchscreen with a 320 x 480 pixel resolution
  • 3G, EDGE/GPRS, Wi-Fi
  • GPS with A-GPS (NDrive apps preloaded with India Maps)
  • Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, USB 2.0
  • 3MP AF camera with blink, smile, face detection, geotagging, beauty shot, Panorama
  • FM radio
  • microSD card support
  • 3.5mm handsfree socket
Xperia X8
For the Xperia X10 fans who found the price tag a little unnerving, Sony Ericsson decided to show a little compassion and scale the handset down a bit. So enter the Xperia X8. In reality it’s more of a stretched out Xperia X10 Mini since it doesn’t come with the Mediascape UI, just Timescape. It will also feature the Four-Corner set up and run on Android 1.6 for now. The 3 inch capacitive display is scratch resistant.

The X8 comes with -
  • a 3 inch touchscreen with a 320 x 480 pixel resolution
  • 3G, EDGE/GPRS, Wi-Fi
  • GPS with A-GPS (Google Maps)
  • Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, USB 2.0
  • 3MP AF camera, Geotagging
  • microSD card support
  • 3.5mm handsfree socket
Garmin ASUS Nuvifone A50
It’s been a bit of a wait but word is that Garmin/ASUS will be bringing their A50 handset to the country loaded with maps for quite a few of our cities. It will feature a UI similar to the previous model that used a Linux based UI (this was pre-Android) and we’re finally seeing the upgrade to a full fledged Android OS (v1.6 to start off with and will hopefully be upgradeable later). The handset will also feature the company’s Breeze UI that looks very user friendly. Garmin will of course be including their own navigation app coupled with other location based services into the handset.

The A50 features -
  • a 3.5-inch touchscreen with a 320 x 480 pixel resolution
  • 3G, EDGE/GPRS, Wi-Fi
  • GPS with A-GPS (Garmin Navigation)
  • Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, USB 2.0
  • 3MP AF camera, Geotagging
  • 4GB of internal storage plus microSD card support
