The Android market for mobile handsets is expanding exponentially and this is definitely going to be its year. There are quite a few Android OS mobiles that are scheduled for launch with very strong possibilities that they will find their way to the Indian shelves. Since the Open Source OS is picking up in a big way, here are a few of the handsets that we hope to see real soon. Acer Liquid Acer’s Liquid is their first Android handset after a slew of Windows Mobile devices. The luxuriously crafted handset was just launched in India and will hit stores in a next few weeks. It runs on a Snapdragon 768 MHz processor and uses the Android Donut (v1.6). It also features a few Acer specific apps and what the company’s calling its Acer UI 3.0. Features - 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen, 480 x 800 pixel resolution 3G connectivity, EDGE/GPRS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth with A2DP, USB 2.0 (mini) GPS with A-GPS support to be used with Google Maps and geotagging 5MP AF camera with LED flash MicroSD card support 3.5mm handsfree connector Lenovo LePhone Lenovo’s LePhone is by far one of the most attractive, innovative, unconventional design forms out in the mobile world. The touchscreen portion of the handset can be removed to be used independently. The remainder of the ‘kit’ includes a rather odd but seemingly user friendly QWERTY keypad and an additional back up battery. Also using a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz, Lenovo is going with the next version of the Android OS V2.0 that will of course be customized by the company. Features - 3.7-inch capacitive touchscreen, 480 x 800 pixel resolution 3G connectivity, EDGE/GPRS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth with A2DP, USB 2.0 (micro) GPS with A-GPS support to be used with Google Maps and geotagging 3MP AF camera MicroSD card support 3.5mm handsfree connector LG Android GT540 LG’s Android handset the GT540 is directed at the avid social networker and loaded with apps to sustain them. From the multimedia angle the handset is equipped with codec for DivX video playback so you’ll be able to drag and drop some video files for instant playback. There’s also been word that the handset will be running on an Android v2.0 OS with a few LG specific customizations. Features - 3.0-inch resistive touchscreen, 320 x 480 pixel resolution 3G connectivity, EDGE/GPRS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP, USB 2.0 (micro) GPS with A-GPS support to be used with Google Maps and geotagging 3MP AF camera MicroSD card support FM Radio 3.5mm handsfree connector |
