China slams US pressures for joining Iran oil embargo
In Beijing, the Chinese government condemned American efforts to pressure it into joining an embargo on Iranian oil.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin was speaking to reporters the day after the US announced India and six other economies had been added to a list of nations that had agreed to cut purchases of Iranian crude in return for exemption from sanctions, leaving China as the only one of Iran's big customers threatened with punishment.
America's new sanctions law was passed at the end of last year. Since then, countries buying Iranian oil have been threatened with banking penalties unless they significantly reduced their purchases.
