Hello everyone and welcome back to Clevver Games, I'm your host Andrea Rene and wow, 2011 was a great year for video games, and Nintendo is popping the champagne to celebrate their amazing holiday season.
.
After a sluggish start to the year with their overpiced handheld, the Nintendo 3DS, execs at the Japanese companied were concerned. So they dropped the price and 3DS started selling like gangbusters. In fact, in the first 9 months of release the 3DS sold more units that the Nintendo Wii. But the Wii still holds the record for the most hardware units sold with over 85,000,000 units worldwide.
.
Nintendo's flagship hero, Super Mario had two breakout hits this holiday season, with Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7. Both of which became the fastest selling titles in history for each franchise and they are the first 3DS titles to hit 1 million units in sales in the U.S. In addition, The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword broke launch records and became the 45th Wii title to sell more than 1 million units.
.
And Nintendo is not slowing down, they have upcoming launches in franchises like Mario Party, Pokemon, and Kid Icarus. Plus there will also be third-party releases like Resident Evil Revelations and Metal Gear Solid 3D Snake Eater. And let's not forget, they are also prepping their new console, the Wii U.
.
I'll keep you up to date on all things Nintendo right here on Clevver Games so make sure to subscribe to not miss any news. Thanks for watching, I'm Andrea Rene and I'll see you next time.
