Microsoft & AOL Getting Ready for Patent Armageddon
Today, I'll be talking about Microsoft's recent deal with AOL. Earlier this week, Microsoft spend $1.1 billion dollars to buy 800 patents from AOL. The covered technology includes cookies, JavaScript, and Secure Socket Layer, or SSL; these technologies rule the web today, and now Microsoft own the patents for them.
So, what's Micrsoft's patent strategy? Well, it seems like they're arming themselves with as many vital patents as they can, in anticipation of Patent Armageddon. So, how is this antagonistic mentality shaping the tech industry right now? Is the anticipation of armageddon fueling these patent deals? Let me know in the comments!
